FAQs
Why work with a private tutor?
Working with a tutor one-on-one instead of in a large class ensures you have individualized attention and lessons that are uniquely tailored for you. Each session is designed with your specific issues, goals, and expectations in mind.
What happens in a typical session?
Sessions are specialized to your needs, so no two students will have the same answer to this question. Usually we will do some combination of instruction, which is focused on learning new strategies, reinforcing old concepts, and targeting weak spots, and practice, where we’ll work on problems together to solidify those concepts. We may also review work you’ve done on your own time, in order to help you identify and fix mistakes.
How often will we meet?
That’s up to you! While most students choose to meet weekly, each student has their own schedule and budget, and we always work to accommodate that. You might wish to meet more frequently, less frequently, or as-needed. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that fits your needs.
Is tutoring done online?
Yes! All of our tutoring is done online, through Zoom (or another platform if for some reason Zoom doesn’t work for you). We’ve found that online tutoring allows for the greatest ease of scheduling and access.
What are your rates?
We charge $150/hour for tutoring. More information, as well as our policy for need-based financial aid can be found on our pricing page.
What’s your availability?
We’re open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10AM to 7PM EST. As we are a small business, sometimes our hours may change due to unforeseen factors, though we will always try to inform students ahead of time.
Do I need any materials for my tutoring session?
No! I will always work with whatever you have, even if that is nothing. That said, outside materials can enhance studying. During tutoring you may receive recommendations, but they are just that, recommendation.
